philosophicalconservatism:

The belief that man and the world that he inhabits are naturally good necessarily leads to the conclusion that one’s own particular society is desperately and uniquely evil. This in turn leads to the special sense of grief and misery found within the political radical. Thus we have the ironic situation of an allegedly idealistic and optimistic view leading to a negative and pessimistic attitude.

On the other hand the recognition of how dark and flawed human nature actually is makes the Conservative in the free nation grateful and happy for the grand exception that surrounds him. And he is inspired to improve it, not to overthrow it.

This is so cool! Today the baby appears to be perfectly healthy with no sign of brain damage after birth, which is amazing since this particular condition usually is treated after birth and tends to get worse.

Wow!
